Search any peptide forum and the same question appears daily: “is [vendor] legit?” The honest answer is that you should never need to ask, because a legitimate supplier publishes the evidence up front, and verifying it takes about five minutes. This checklist is the exact standard we believe every buyer should hold every supplier to, including us.
The 7-point verification checklist
1. Demand a lot matched, third party COA
A Certificate of Analysis documents the identity, purity, and composition of a specific production batch. In-house testing alone is not verification, because the vendor is grading its own homework. The certificate should name the independent laboratory that performed the analysis, and it should be public, not “available on request.”
2. Check both purity and identity: they are different tests
Purity is measured by reversed-phase HPLC, reported as the main peak’s share of total chromatogram area (UV detection, typically 210-220 nm). Identity is confirmed separately by mass spectrometry: the observed molecular mass must match the peptide’s theoretical mass within tolerance. A COA showing only one of the two is half a test, because a 99% pure vial of the wrong compound passes HPLC alone.
3. Match the lot number to your vial
A generic “catalog COA” proves nothing about the batch you received. The lot number printed on the certificate must match the lot number printed on your vial’s label. If a vendor’s certificates carry no lot numbers at all, treat them as marketing images, not analysis.
4. Verify the testing laboratory exists
Search the lab named on the certificate. A real analytical laboratory has its own web presence, address, and client base independent of the peptide vendor. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories, is the recognized gold standard.
5. Expect purity appropriate to research use
Common conventions in peptide quality control: 95% HPLC purity is a general minimum for research applications, 98%+ is typical research grade material, and 99%+ approaches reference-grade. Be equally suspicious in the other direction: a catalog where every product claims an identical “99.99%” with no chromatograms attached is a red flag, not a credential.
6. Prefer domestic shipping with real logistics
Lyophilized peptides are stable, but long international transit adds heat cycles, customs delays, and seizure risk. A domestic supplier with stated dispatch times and tracked shipping removes those variables and gives you recourse if something goes wrong.
7. Read the policies before ordering
A serious research supplier states its terms plainly: Research Use Only conditions it actually enforces, a shipping policy with real timeframes, a clearly written refund policy, and a reachable contact. Vendors that publish dosing guides or “results” imagery are not operating as research suppliers, and that is a compliance risk you inherit as a customer.
Red flags that should end the evaluation
- No COA at all, or certificates shown only “on request”
- Certificates that do not name the testing laboratory
- No lot numbers on certificates or vial labels
- Identical purity claims across the entire catalog with no chromatograms
- Human dosing instructions, protocols, or before/after imagery
- Prices dramatically below the market for a given compound
- No physical business presence, contact address, or working support channel
- Any claim of being “FDA approved”: research peptides are not FDA-approved products, and a vendor claiming otherwise is lying to you

How to read a Certificate of Analysis
When you open a COA, check these fields in order:
- Product and lot number: matches your vial label exactly.
- Testing laboratory: named, independent, findable.
- HPLC purity: main-peak percentage, ideally with the chromatogram shown.
- Mass spectrometry result: observed mass vs. theoretical mass for the sequence.
- Date of analysis: recent, and consistent with the batch’s production date.
